Mal Osborne-Smith

Principal

International property professional and qualified lawyer with over 20 years experience in the property development industry in Australia and Asia.  Mal has a broad skill set including new business start-ups and retail concept developments, project acquisitions, large scale project development management, asset portfolio management, leasing, and advisory work.  Mal has worked at both domestic and international level including with UK-based retailer Tesco PLC,  US-based gaming and resort developer Las Vegas Sands Corporation, large Australian  shopping centre owner and developer MCS-Centro Property, and top tier Australian law firms.   Mal has degrees in Law, and Economics, and Masters degree in Property, and is a Graduate of the Australia Institute of Company Directors  (AICD).

What we do

Development

Cawarra specialises in the development of period shop and dwelllings in popular strips well serviced by public transport.  Our concept, which we call ThreeDoors     repositions these single assets into three - a shop, a shop-top dwelling, and a new laneway townhouse at the rear.  This maximizes income and value. We can do this for you, or together as an investment syndicate.

Consultancy

At Cawarra we have assisted numerous clients in property aquistions, due diligence, master planning and planning approvals, development management, retail planning and leasing.  Clients include government and local government, property owners, investors, private family groups.

Asset management

Cawarra helps clients manage small to medium sized mixed-use assets which typically get the bare minimum service from traditional managers.  We can assist managing these properties during important transition periods, such during purchase, repositioning, re-leasing, sale, revaluation, or deveopment.  By focusing on tightly controlling outgoings, maximising rentals with quality tenants,  proper presentiation and accountability, we can help drive yield compression and therefore value-add.
